WEB VIDEO: Kasich's Stimulus Hypocrisy

Posted on 02/25/2010 @ 02:38 PM

COLUMBUS—Today, the Ohio Democratic Party released a Web video highlighting Republican gubernatorial candidate Congressman John Kasich’s contradictory comments on whether or not he would have accepted funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. While Kasich has criticized Governor Strickland for accepting the funding—which devoted billions of dollars to job creation, infrastructure projects, and education, among other things—on Tuesday he changed course and said that he also would have taken the money.

The video, which includes footage from Marc Kovac's Capital Blog, is below and the script follows:

Script: “Tin Cup”

Text: Congressman John Kasich at the Columbus Tax Day Tea Party – April 2009

Kasich: “And let me just tell you - we are determined. We are committed. And we are relentless. And if they don't get the message, we'll march. And we'll turn 'em out in 2010.”

Kasich: "It's about this crowd and I'm one of you.”

Reporter: "Would you accept another round of stimulus money?"

Kasich: “I don’t think going to Washington on your knees with a tin cup begging for somebody else to bail us out is an answer."

Text: …and against using stimulus funds. Right?

Kasich: "I think it's our money. So I think the money... we ought to be, we ought to be making a very good case it's our money. And we want the money." [OhioCapitalBlog, http://blogs.dixcdn.com/capitalblog/]

Text: Wait. Congressman Kasich supports the stimulus?

Kasich: “Well, I think it’s a mistake to use one-time money to solve a permanent problem.” [OhioCapitalBlog, http://blogs.dixcdn.com/capitalblog/]

Text: Can he be a little more clear?

Kasich: "I don't know how more, more… much more clear I can be on this! You're not going to get me to say we didn't want stimulus money." [OhioCapitalBlog, http://blogs.dixcdn.com/capitalblog/]

Kasich: "I don't know how more, more… much more clear I can be on this!” [OhioCapitalBlog, http://blogs.dixcdn.com/capitalblog/]
