About the African American Caucus:

The mission of the African American Caucus of the Ohio Democratic Party is to improve and increase the participation of African Americans in all aspects of the political process within the State of Ohio, including activism, leadership, voting and fundraising; and to facilitate an ongoing dialogue between the Ohio Democratic Party leadership and the African American community for the exchange of ideas, issues and concerns pertaining to Democratic politics. To accomplish its mission, the African American Caucus will:

• Identify, engage and collaborate with existing political players, (i.e. elected officials, political operatives, activists, candidates, fundraisers, allied organizations, etc.)
• Develop and implement an outreach plan to identify, engage and involve African Americans outside of the traditional urban areas.
• Utilize new/existing technology and traditional methods to connect and implement “two-way” communications with African Americans across the state regarding issues that resonate within the targeted markets.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to identify, educate, recruit and engage young African Americans in activities that lead to political career opportunities.
• Facilitate the ongoing communication of information, ideas, and issues between African Americans across the state.
• Identify, communicate and replicate best practices throughout the state.

About the Caucus Director:

Nathaniel Angel joined the Ohio Democratic Party as African American Caucus Director in August 2009. A native of Franklin County, Angel was born and raised in Columbus. He is a graduate of Columbus East High School and Notre Dame University. Most recently, Angel worked in the Office of Workforce Development, facilitating job training programs for dislocated and unemployed Ohioans. In 2004, Nathaniel started as a Community Organizer for Young Voters Alliance, where he recruited, trained and assigned canvassers. He has served as Chairman of the Board of an Urban League affiliate and a local Community Action Agency. Angel’s lifelong dedication to community-oriented organizations and extensive experience building diverse coalitions will be an asset to the Ohio Democratic Party.
