Maryellen O'Shaughnessy Calls on LetOhioVote.org to Disclose Donors

COLUMBUS – Democratic candidate for Ohio Secretary of State Maryellen O’Shaughnessy called on LetOhioVote.org to disclose its donor list. The group, which is funding a statewide ballot initiative, has thus far refused to inform the voters of Ohio who is funding its campaign.

"I am running for Secretary of State because I am committed to free, fair and open elections," Maryellen O'Shaughnessy said. "As campaigns spend millions of dollars trying to convince Ohioans to vote one way or another, voters deserve to know who is footing the bill. In light of LetOhioVote.org's refusal to disclose its donors and after the ruling in Citizens United, transparency in campaign spending is now more important than ever. LetOhioVote.org owes it to Ohioans to disclose its donors, and I call on them to do so immediately."

"I commend Secretary Brunner for her work on this case," O'Shaughnessy added. "As Ohio's next Secretary of State, I will work every day to promote openness in our democratic process, just as I have promoted openness in government as Clerk."

As Clerk of Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, O'Shaughnessy has a strong record of promoting openness in government. She has made it a priority to boost transparency in that office by ensuring that court documents are quickly available online for public viewing. She has also improved turnaround time for document processing and provided more responsive services. She will build on her record as a champion of transparency as Secretary of State.
