Voinovich Votes to Advance Jobs Bill; Where Do Kasich and Portman Stand?
COLUMBUS – Senator George Voinovich joined with 61 of his fellow U.S. Senators to advance a jobs bill in the U.S. Senate. While Governor Ted Strickland recently called for bipartisan action to pass the bill, which includes critical measures like increasing access to credit for small businesses, Republican gubernatorial candidate Congressman John Kasich has not taken a stand on the legislation. Architect of the Bush economy and Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Rob Portman has also refused to say how he would have voted were he in the U.S. Senate. In response, Ohio Democratic Party Communications Director Seth Bringman issued the following statement:
"Today, the U.S. Senate took a critical step for our economy by voting to advance a jobs bill that will help create jobs and bolster small businesses," said Bringman. "While Governor Strickland has called on Democrats and Republicans in Congress to work together to pass this legislation, Congressman John Kasich has yet to say where he stands on it. And while Senator George Voinovich crossed the aisle to advance the measure, Congressman Rob Portman has refused to say how he would have voted were he in the U.S. Senate. Ohioans deserve to know if Congressman Kasich and Congressman Portman stand with Ohio’s workers and small businesses by supporting this bill."
