Providing Affordable Health Care
The Ohio Democratic Party is committed to making sure every Ohioan has access to quality, affordable health care.  When Republicans were in control of state government, families were unable to meet their basic health care needs, leaving over a million citizens uninsured with nearly a quarter of those being children.

Democrats have focused on providing health care coverage to those most in need: children and low-income residents.  Governor Ted Strickland delivered on his promise to provide health care access for all Ohio’s children and is using innovative ways to keep health care costs down through preventative care.

GOP RECORD

Over One Million Ohioans Uninsured

  • Working Families Struggle for Health Care Coverage.  In 2006, Bob Taft’s last year as governor, an estimated 1.3 million adults and children living in Ohio had no health coverage.  A staggering four out of five of the 1.3 million were members of working families.  Nearly a quarter of a million children did not have health insurance coverage. WHAT WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED

GOVERNOR TED STRICKLAND

Health Care for All Ohio’s Children

  • Health Care Access for All Ohio’s Children.  Governor Strickland and the Ohio legislature passed a budget that would provide all children up to 300 percent of the federal poverty line with access to health care through the State Children’s Health Insurance Program.  Families at incomes above 300 percent of poverty will be able to buy health coverage from the state for children with special needs that prevent them from qualifying for private insurance.  To read more about the state’s biennial budget, please click here.
